Dexter Morgan is back the night before Halloween, and this time he has two serial killers, a son in the NYPD and a mid-life crisis to deal with. Here is everything confirmed about season 2, who the new killers are, and the season 1 recap you need before Friday, October 30.
I have followed Dexter through all of it: the great early Showtime years, the lumberjack finale everybody wanted to forget, New Blood, and then Resurrection, which finally felt like the show I fell in love with. Season 1 ended with Dexter alive, free and staying in New York, and with a name on a file that set up this entire season. It has been a long wait since September 2025.
2Season 2
Two killers, one older and one younger, and a Dexter who wants credit for once.
Season 2 premieres Friday, October 30, 2026 on Paramount+ (the Premium plan, the one with Showtime). It starts with a single episode and then goes weekly, ten episodes in all, the same as season 1. Michael C. Hall is back as Dexter, Jack Alcott is back as Harrison, and Clyde Phillips, who ran the original show's first four seasons, is still the showrunner.
The official logline is about as Dexter as it gets: "Dexter Morgan is back, and this time he's facing two killers and a mid-life crisis." The episode 1 synopsis adds that "Dexter struggles to find purpose beyond the hunt as Harrison begins his NYPD career. A brazen new murderer puts the city on edge."
The story picks up after a time jump of roughly three years (one detailed guide puts it at three to four, with the season opening in June 2026). Harrison in a police uniform is the image I keep coming back to. The son of the Bay Harbor Butcher, carrying a badge in the city where his dad is still killing. That is a pressure cooker.
If you want to rewatch before Friday, here is the whole Dexterverse in watch order of importance:
Dan Stevens plays Lucas Stark, the Five Borough Killer. Clyde Phillips's description: "He is killing in each borough to terrorize the city." The interesting part is how Stark gets under Dexter's skin. Stark is famous. Dexter, after decades of work, is not, and Phillips says Stark's notoriety drives Dexter crazy because "nobody knows who he is." A Dexter who wants credit is a Dexter who starts making mistakes, and I cannot wait to watch it happen. Anyone who has seen Stevens in The Guest or Abigail knows he can play charming and terrifying in the same scene.
Brian Cox plays Don Framt, the New York Ripper. He is the older half of the official synopsis, a killer with decades of notoriety who has stopped killing and now torments the survivors of his old spree instead. At least one outlet is already calling him the show's Trinity Killer replacement, and if he comes anywhere close to John Lithgow in season 4, this could be the best season of Dexter in years.
One killer is famous and Dexter is jealous. The other has retired and Dexter is curious. Both of those are bad news for him.
Who else is in season 2
Uma Thurman returns as Charley Brown, Leon Prater's former head of security.
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Melvin Oliva and James Remar as Harry, still riding along in Dexter's head.
Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn, now promoted to series regular. Old-school fans, this one is for you.
New regulars Bokeem Woodbine as Captain Mixon and Nona Parker Johnson as Fiona Mixon.
Krysten Ritter is back as Mia LaPierre, Lady Vengeance. After what happened to her in season 1, a straight return is not on the table, so expect a vision or a flashback. Set photos point at the vision version, but that is not confirmed.
According to the Dexter Daily guide, David Zayas returns as Angel Batista in a much smaller role, and Eric Stonestreet is back as Al Walker, the Rapunzel killer.
The first full look also gave us a line from Dexter that sounds like the whole season in one sentence: "But if I can't believe in myself, I can't believe in anything."
Season 1 recap: spoilers from here
Everything below spoils the whole of Dexter: Resurrection season 1, including the finale. If you have not watched it yet, stop at the cast list above.
Dexter wakes from a ten-week coma after Harrison shot him at the end of New Blood. He leaves Iron Lake and heads to New York to find his son and make things right.
In the city, he gets pulled into billionaire Leon Prater's secret club of serial killers and joins it by posing as another killer. Uma Thurman's Charley runs Prater's security.
Angel Batista follows Dexter's trail to New York. In episode 9, Touched by an Ángel, Batista confronts Dexter at Prater's mansion, Prater kills Batista, and Dexter is locked in Prater's vault.
Harrison sneaks into the party and gets his father out of the vault. In the finale, And Justice for All, Dexter kills Prater, cuts up the body and leads the police to Prater's shrine of serial killers. As far as the police are concerned, Prater killed Batista and ran.
Charley walks away and leaves New York. Reports differ on exactly how that deal went down, but she is out of Prater's world by the end.
Dexter leaves the New York Ripper's file, with the name Don Framt in it, for Detective Claudette Wallace. That is the thread season 2 picks up.
The closing scenes leave Dexter alive, free and staying in New York, and Harrison focused on building a life of his own.
What I want season 2 to answer
Does Harrison's job put him on the Five Borough case, and does that put him on a collision course with his father?
Claudette Wallace has the Ripper's name. How long before the police are standing in the same room as Dexter and Don Framt?
Why is Charley back in New York after walking away?
How far will Dexter go to be noticed? A Dexter who wants credit is the most dangerous version of him we have ever seen.

Season 2 streams on Paramount+ with the Premium plan, starting Friday, October 30, 2026, with new episodes weekly after that. Season 1 is already there in full, so you have just enough time to binge all ten episodes before the premiere if you start this weekend.
VisionQuest episodes 3 and 4 explained: who Butcherbird is, why Vision handed Ultron control, Tommy's powers, the J.I.M. ending, and when episode 5 drops.
Lanterns finale explained: who killed Hal Jordan, Noah's secret, Sinestro's yellow lantern, Guy Gardner's cameo, and the moment John Stewart finally flies.
