Social Entertainment / Terms of Service
Terms of Service
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use govern your use of Social Entertainment ("the app"), operated by Uncoded Lifestyle ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
2. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 13 years old to use the app. You are responsible for your account: keep your credentials secure, provide accurate information, and don't share your account or impersonate anyone else. You may delete your account at any time from your profile.
3. Your content
You can post content in the app — comments (on movies, shows, and individual episodes), ratings, your watch list, the titles and notes you send to other people in a conversation, the name you give a group, and your profile username and picture (together, "your content"). Your content remains yours. By posting or sending it you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, transmit, and distribute it within the app so the service can work (for example, showing your comment to other users, showing your ratings on your profile, or delivering a title you sent to the people you sent it to). This license ends when you delete the content or your account.
Only post a profile picture you have the right to use. Do not use someone else's photo, or an image you don't own, as your avatar.
These rules apply to everything you post, private messages included. A conversation being private does not make it exempt: a message that harasses or threatens somebody breaks these terms exactly as a public comment would.
You are solely responsible for what you post. Do not post content that:
- harasses, threatens, bullies, or defames anyone, or is hateful toward any person or group;
- is sexually explicit, gratuitously violent, or otherwise objectionable;
- is illegal, promotes illegal activity, or infringes someone else's rights (including copyright);
- contains someone else's personal information without their consent;
- contains links to other websites, or contact details standing in for one — the app refuses links in comments and messages, and working around that filter is itself a violation. Everything worth pointing someone to inside the app can be sent as a title;
- impersonates any person or entity;
- is spam, advertising, or repetitive/automated posting.
4. Moderation, reporting, and blocking
We provide tools to keep the community safe: you can report any comment (the flag icon) and block any user (the block icon); blocked users' comments are hidden from you everywhere in the app immediately, and blocking someone also closes any conversation between you.
You can report a message that was sent to you, in a one-to-one conversation or a group. Only the people a message was addressed to can report it, since nobody else can read it. When you report something, the reported content is sent to our moderators so a person can review it — which means we can read a private message that has been reported. We do not otherwise read your conversations. Blocking somebody is not the same as reporting them: a block protects you, a report is what lets us act on the account.
We review reports promptly — normally within 24 hours — and will remove content that violates these terms and, where appropriate, suspend or permanently remove the accounts responsible. We may remove any content or restrict any account at our discretion to protect the service and its users. There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior.
5. Following, profiles, and notifications
You can follow other users, and other users can follow you. Following is not a private act: your profile shows who you follow and who follows you, along with your ratings and watch list, and anyone can reach your profile by tapping your name on a comment. You can hide your list, ratings, and connections from other users at any time with Profile → Settings → Privacy → Public profile; your username and comments stay public either way. What is and isn't visible is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.
Do not use following, profiles, or the activity feed to harass, stalk, or evade a block. Following someone repeatedly after they block you, creating accounts to get around a block, or using another person's photo or identity as your profile is a violation of these terms and we will act on it under section 4.
Your profile also has a web address you can share with anyone. Sending that link to somebody lets them open your profile without an account, and pasting it into a messaging app lets that app draw a preview card from it. Share it accordingly: if you would rather it showed nothing but your name, turn Public profile off first.
Push notifications are optional and off until you turn them on. They tell you about activity from people you chose to follow, and about titles somebody has sent you; we do not use them for advertising or promotion. You can turn them off entirely, silence them by kind, or mute an individual person, in Profile → Settings → Notifications or in your device's settings.
6. Sending titles, conversations, and groups
You can send a title, with an optional note, to someone you follow who also follows you. That mutual rule is not a setting and cannot be turned off: if somebody has not followed you back, you cannot reach them. Do not try to work around it — creating accounts, or getting a follow back under false pretenses in order to message someone who does not want to hear from you, is a violation of these terms and we will act on it under section 4.
Do not use conversations to harass, threaten, stalk, or spam anyone, to evade a block, or to send bulk or automated messages. The content rules in section 3 apply in a conversation exactly as they do in a comment thread. If somebody does not want to hear from you, unfollowing or blocking them is the answer the app gives them, and you must not go around it.
Groups keep the people they started with. Every member of a group must be a mutual follow of whoever created it, and nobody can be added afterwards — which is what stops a group being a way to put you in a room with strangers. Any member can rename a group, because nobody admitted anybody and so nobody has standing the others lack. Leaving a group is permanent: the conversation stops being readable to you and you cannot rejoin it, though what you already posted stays visible to the members who remain.
You can delete a message you sent, which removes it for everyone in the conversation. You cannot delete somebody else's message, undo the fact that they read yours, or stop them describing it elsewhere — the same as any other conversation. Deleting your account removes your messages from the conversations you were in, in both directions.
A conversation outlives the follow that allowed it. If either of you unfollows, no new messages can be sent, but the history stays readable to both of you. We are not obliged to preserve, restore, or produce message history, and we may remove messages that violate these terms under section 4.
What is stored, what other people can see, and what happens to it when you delete your account are set out in full in our Privacy Policy. One point belongs here as well: messages are not end-to-end encrypted. They are private from other users, not from us, which is what allows us to act on a report at all.
7. Badges
The app awards milestone badges for rating, commenting on, and sharing titles. Badges are a feature of the service, not property and not a prize: they have no cash value, cannot be bought, sold, transferred, or exchanged for anything, and nothing about them is a contest, sweepstakes, or game of chance — a badge is simply a count of your own activity passing a number.
Because a badge is derived from a live count rather than granted once, it can go down as well as up. Deleting your own comment, or having content removed under section 4, lowers the count it came from and may take a badge with it. We may also adjust, withhold, or remove badges, and the counts behind them, where activity was manufactured to inflate them — the rules in section 3 against spam and repetitive or automated posting apply to badge progress exactly as they do to everything else.
We may add, rename, retire, or change the thresholds of badges as the app develops.
8. Third-party content
Movie and TV information, artwork, ratings data, and streaming availability come from third parties, primarily The Movie Database (TMDB) and JustWatch; trailers are played via YouTube. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or availability of third-party content, and such content remains subject to its owners' rights and terms.
9. Acceptable use of the service
Do not attempt to disrupt or misuse the service — including probing or breaching security, scraping at scale, reverse engineering, reselling the service, or accessing it by automated means other than public interfaces we provide.
10. Termination
You may stop using the app or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as content licenses for content you haven't deleted, disclaimers, and liability limits) survive termination.
11. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the past twelve months (currently zero — the app is free) or US $50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
13. App store terms
These terms are between you and us, not with Apple Inc. or Google LLC. Apple and Google are not responsible for the app or its content, have no obligation to provide support or maintenance, and are third-party beneficiaries of these terms with the right to enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also comply with the applicable app store's terms of service.
14. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version will always be posted at this address with its effective date; material changes will be highlighted in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Uncoded Lifestyle operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
